Planning and Preparation for a VaSCL SCL Share Fair Presentation

The Student Leadership Conference for the past three years has featured a Share Fair Assembly, during which teams of students gave five-minute presentations about programs, projects, activities and/or events at their schools. For this year’s Virtual SLC, Share Fair Presentations will be 3-5 minute video-recordings that will be submitted in advance. All submissions will become part of a Library of Share Fair Presentations, which will be shared with all participants, and selected presentations will be shown during the SLC. Schools which take on the project of creating a Virtual Share Fair Presentation will be given the opportunity to add two more students to their school’s team (for a total of seven students). If you choose to submit a Creative Expression Presentation as well, up to nine students can attend the SLC.

GOAL of Share Fair Presentations

  • learn from other students about programs, projects, activities, and events that are working well at other schools
  • spark ideas for innovative approaches to help address issues and challenges that high schools are facing
  • provide a rewarding learning experience for students who produce a presentation
  • exercise student voice and choice as school teams collaborate to produce authentic student work and as students respond to other schools’ presentations

FOCUS of Share Fair Presentations

  • examine ways in which students can help make their schools and communities more just and joyful
  • explore programs or activities which enhance students’ sense of well-being by creating environments in which students feel that they are treated with respect and given a fair chance to be successful
  • share innovative projects or events which students find engaging and enjoyable and which increase the acceptance and inclusion of all students in the school community

SUGGESTIONS for GENERAL TOPICS for Share Fair Presentations

  • events or programs at your school which students are especially proud of
  • activities or projects that have been particularly successful at your school in the past
  • new ways in which student leaders are connecting with and supporting each other, as well as serving their communities, in a mostly virtual environment

  • What has increased students’ awareness of the real-world impact of their own attitudes and actions?
  • What encourages students to value the contributions of other members of their community?
  • What has helped students explore what justice looks like in one or more domains (racial, cultural, economic, generational, social, or ecological) and how to identify and address injustices?

QUESTIONS, CONCERNS, SUGGESTIONS??

We hope that your team of students DOES decide that they have a program, project, activity or event that they believe can help create more “Just and Joyful Schools,” and that they take on the FUN challenge of preparing a 3-5 minute video-recording of their Share Fair Presentation.

It will be a rewarding experience for them personally and will help ensure the effectiveness of this year’s VaSCL Student Leadership Conference for all participants!
