Membership Benefits, Programs, Services, & Fees

Professional Learning and Networking

  • Opportunities for teachers and administrators from 80+ member school divisions to participate in inexpensive professional learning featuring state and national presenters and local expert practitioners. Professional Learning workshop series are blended onsite and virtually to increase transfer into practice.

  • Free participation for teachers and instructional leaders in Balanced Assessment Community of Practice sessions designed to develop assessment literacy and leadership as teams create, review, and revise items, tasks, and rubrics for the Balanced Assessment Bank
  • Opportunities for school leaders including teacher leaders to outstanding leaders in the field of education

  • Representation on the VaSCL Professional Development Steering Committee to plan professional learning opportunities based on current needs of members, network to share resources and practices, and discuss key current educational issues and concerns
  • Access to grant programs and teacher training opportunities in collaboration with various partners and programs such as Commonwealth Learning Partners, Virginia Learns Foundation, VDOE, VaLIN, VaSCD
  • Access to scheduled site visits to schools as part of professional learning opportunities

Balanced Assessment Bank and Work Groups

  • Coordinator Support to assist with Balanced Assessment Model of formative and summative applications and with bank accessibility across digital platforms

  • Free Access to a Balanced Assessment Bank with about 10,000 high-quality multiple-choice items and about 150 tasks and rubrics aligned to Va SOLs. Focus areas include Mathematics (Grades 3-8, Algebra I, and Geometry), Social Studies (Grade 3, VA Studies, U.S. History I, U.S. History II, Civics, World History I, and World History II), Reading (Grades 3-5), Writing (Grade 5 and Grade 11), and Science (Grades 3-8)

Student Leadership

  • Free participation for student teams from each member division in the Annual Student Leadership Design Thinking Institute, which assists high school students in the development of leadership skills as they work on school design challenges

Local Division Benefits

  • Partnerships with Newsela, EF Tours, and Power School that result in local discounts in contract services as well as access to professional learning opportunities
  • Access to VaSCL staff to support local work with balanced assessment literacy and consultation on other professional topics of local interest

Fees

Each member school division pays $800 per 1,000 students ADM. No school division pays less than $800 for membership, and no school division pays more than $6,000 for membership.
