Workshop Details

While it is important to set up your classroom management structures at the beginning of the school year, it is always a good time to reflect upon your structures and learn new methods in preparation for the upcoming year or simply to tweak what you currently have in place. In this session you will come away with practical solutions and strategies that you can implement in your classroom to improve the connections between yourself and all of your students, not just those that struggle. You will learn about trauma informed practices and why/how trauma can drive behaviors and what you can do to promote the academic and social/emotional growth of your students. You will be challenged to look at your own behavior and beliefs and there may be some growth on your part as well.

Recertification Certificate

Recertification Certificates (5 points) will be given at the end of the PD workshop series after completion of an electronic exit survey.

Audience

Teachers K-5, Novice Teachers, Special Education Teachers, School Administrators, Instructional Coaches

Presenters

Angie Davidson

Angie Davidson is on a mission to create and shape environments to allow struggling students to achieve success and thrive in public school settings. Trained as an educator with a degree in Human Services and a Masters in Education from Virginia Tech, she spent ten years as a teacher in an elementary setting. Her love for struggling students drove her to begin her BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analysis) certification in 2021 and begin a new position as an Intervention Specialist for multiple elementary schools. During the 2022- 2023 school year she successfully decreased negative behaviors in 95% of teacher referred students by using her regulation station room, FBAs, and individual targeted behavior plans. In June, she became a licensed BCBA awaiting her state license approval and recently began a job in this area where she will be working with all schools in the district.

Stephanie Staples

Stephanie Staples is a Kindergarten teacher in Salem City Public Schools. Having the good fortune of living in a variety of places growing up in a military family, she learned a lot about the importance of flexibility as well as the crucial role stability plays in life. She has been in education for 24 years with experience in special education support along with teaching upper elementary and early childhood. Her goal, as an educator, is to be the adult in the classroom that every child deserves and needs and to share what I have learned through my experiences with others.
