Workshop Details

This intensive day-long professional development is designed to address the diverse needs of students with challenging behavior while emphasizing the importance of building a strong community and enhancing capacity. Throughout the day, we will delve into strategies and interventions that span from general education responses to tiered Tier 3 extensive special education support. Our aim is to create a supportive and inclusive environment that nurtures positive behaviors and facilitates academic success for all students. By the end of the day, participants will have gained a profound understanding of effective approaches to engage the community, boost capacity, and provide optimal support to students at every level of need, including those requiring extensive special education assistance.

Recertification Certificate

Recertification Certificates (5 points) will be given at the end of the PD workshop series after completion of an electronic exit survey.

Presenter

Megan Williams

Megan Williams currently works as a Behavioral Specialist for the Behavior-Based Special Education programs in Albemarle County Public Schools. Megan is an alternatively trained educator through the Urban Teacher Center and holds dual masters with specialization in K-8 education and K-12 special education. During her tenure in Washington, D.C., Megan taught at elementary school, middle, and high school levels. She also has served as a content team leader, an Urban Fellows learning coach, and special education teacher serving diverse student demographics in urban and rural-suburban settings. She holds a B.S. in psychology with minors in Biology and History. After moving back to her hometown, Megan began working as a behavior-based special education teacher using Choice Theory as a frame for strategic behavioral prevention and intervention. She now works directly with classroom and special education teachers to plan and take actions to address behavioral issues.

Workshop Series Cost

The workshop fee is $149 for each participant who is a member of a school division that is a member of VaSCL. You can check here for member divisions.

The registration fee for participants from Non-Member school divisions is $199.
