February 09, 2021
4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Based on conversations with divisions in the VaSCL Community and across Virginia, it’s become clear that Virginia Social Studies teachers and leaders are focused on providing students with a redefined experience in the Social Studies classroom. This session will explore the “why” and “how” behind “reframing the narrative” in the social studies classroom.
Attendees will leave with strategies to bring the following takeaways to life in their Divisions and classrooms:
- Connect past to present, making social studies perpetually up-to-date and relevant
- Amplify diverse and multi-dimensional narratives
- Challenge students to critically examine multiple perspectives
- Infuse curriculum and instruction with authentic disciplinary literacy opportunities
- Support an inquiry-based approach with a focus on inspiring civic action
Division Leaders, Curriculum Specialists, Instructional Coahes, Classroom teachers, ITRT and other Instructional Support Staff
